We’re a not-for-profit Wellington ecosanctuary that connects people with our unique natural heritage, and inspires actions that transform how people live with nature in our cities, towns and beyond. Located in the heart of Wellington, our 225-hectare (500+ acre) sanctuary is home to some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s rarest and most extraordinary native species – such as kākā, tuatara, giant wētā, and kiwi, among others. Soaring, calling, roaming and nesting, all within the protection of a world-first fully-fenced, urban ecosanctuary.
We offer guided walking tours in small groups of up to 12 pax, ranging from early morning and day tours to night-time experiences. Our passionate and knowledgeable guides are experts at spotting New Zealand’s elusive wildlife and at sharing informative, entertaining and inspiring stories. Visitors will discover how nature returned to Wellington, learn about New Zealand’s unique ecological history and challenges, all whilst soaking up the beauty of the valley and encountering unique wildlife. Every tour sale directly contributes to our restoration work, and visitors become part of a world-first conservation story.
